Intermitent slownest of the site: update

Actually, the problem we are facing is the following:

(memory leak)

Some processes end up eating ~2G of memory each - which causes slowdown of everything:

We are working on a fix. Hopefully everything will be fixed ~~by end of day today (30th Jan 2010).~~ tomorrow (31st Jan 2010).
